The e-passport (new Kenyan passport) recently came into existence after the government of Kenya did away with old Kenyan passports and asked its citizens to renew the old passports. The new e-passports now are more powerful as they can be used to traverse the east African region countries. To add more to their uniqueness they are now even been recognized internationally and can be used in many countries.
For a citizen-based in Kenya its quite simple to apply for one or even renew the old passport.This is made easy through the use of the E-citizen portal which can be accessed via mobile app or the official website.so let’s dig in
To apply for the passport we must understand what we require and the types
Types of Kenyan e-passports
- 32 pages ordinary ‘A’ Series passport – Kshs. 4,550.
- 48 pages Ordinary ‘B’ Series passport – Kshs. 6,050
- 64 pages ‘C’ Series passport – Kshs. 7,550
special cases
- Lost passport – Kshs. 12,050
- Diplomatic passport with 48 pages – Kshs. 7,550.
E-passport application process
Follow the quick and easy simple steps
1 .Go to ecitizen web portal
using the browser of your phone mobile app or computer access ecitizen
2.Login /register into your account
using your details login if you don’t have an account you will be prompted to register.it takes only 2 minutes and you are done
3.Click on the Immigration service department
Once you have clicked on the immigration service department you will head on and click on the e-passport application form tab and fill out the details required of you.
NB please be keen with the details you give make sure they are precise and correct
4.Fee payment
After filling out the form correctly,you will have to part with an application fee according to the type of passport you are applying for . Payments can be done via M-pesa among many other platforms given on the ecitizen platform.Once payment is received you can view the transaction made on your portal
5.Print and Download
You can confirm everything about the details given before printing it out for manual submission at Huduma centers all across the country of kenya. If abroad you can head to the Kenyan Embassies for further directions.
Requirements needed to submit the application form
- biometric appointment date and ti,e
- one original e-citizen prefilled application form-download on your portal
- 2 copies of paid invoice-download on your portal
- original ID card and copy
- original Birth certificate card and copy
- if going in for a replacement avail your old passport
- Recommenders id card copy
- Parent ID cards/Death certificates
- consent from minors
- 3 passport photos for adults

Passport tracking and times of the passport collection can be checked via the ecitizen portal.Furthermore special numbers can are assigned to assist in checking when they are out by the stations where you submitted the application forms
