
KRA Nil returns are filed and submitted when one is unemployed or does not have an income that might be taxable by the state as per the Taxing body in Kenya(KRA). This type of return is required to be submitted at the end of every financial year. It is advised that everybody holding a KRA pin certificate file the returns to avoid unnecessary penalties that accumulate. For it is stated under the financial act passed in 2018 that failure of filling returns may attract Ksh 2000 as the penalty.
Prerequisites for file Nil returns:
- KRA PIN
- KRA password
- KRA itax portal
- Browser
Lets now dig in on the four simple steps on how to file nil returns
Step 1:Go to the KRA iTax portal
Visit Itax which is the official link for filing returns. Type out your KRA pin, password. And solve the simple arithmetic problem. Then submit.
Step 2:Navigate into the KRA Dashboard
After a successful login, you will be directed into the main dashboard where there are many Palettes. But our main focus is filing Nill returns
1:Click on the Returns tab
2.Scroll down and click File Nill Return
Step 3:Filing Up The Nil Return Form
After clicking the nill return you are prompted with a form that requires you to select the
- Type: choose self
- Taxpayer pin:(your kra pin)sometimes automatically filed
- Tax obligation:Select :Income Tax Resident
Click on Next
- Personal Identification Number: automatically filed
- WIfe pin:(fill or leave it blank)
- Return Period From Start of the previous year
- Return Period To End of the previous year
Step 4:Downnload and Print Nil Return Receipt
After everything goes well you can now print your receipt as form of evidence of nll returns
